SERVICES

For Your First Appointment

The first appointment in therapy is an important step where we get to know each other and begin to understand your reasons for seeking therapy. This session is designed to create a safe and welcoming space for you to share what brought you here, whether it’s specific challenges, feelings, or situations that you want support with.
During this meeting, we can discuss why you came to therapy including your concerns, difficulties, or areas of your life you want to explore or improve. We can discuss your expectations and what you hope to gain from therapy, how the process works, and any questions or doubts you may have.  Together we will identify clear, realistic goals for your therapy journey based on your needs and priorities. We can discuss how sessions typically proceed, confidentiality, your role in the process, and what you can expect from me as your therapist.

ADULT
The first session in individual therapy is an opportunity for you to share what brought you here and what you hope to achieve. We’ll talk about your current concerns, challenges, or feelings that you want to explore. This session helps us build a trusting relationship and understand your unique story.
We’ll discuss your expectations about therapy and clarify how the process works, including confidentiality and your role. Together, we’ll set personal goals that focus on your growth, healing, and well-being. This first meeting is about making sure therapy feels like a safe and supportive space for you to work through your challenges at your own pace.
COUPLES
In couples therapy, the first appointment is a chance for both partners to share their reasons for seeking support and what they hope to improve in their relationship. We’ll explore how you communicate, your connection, and any areas of conflict or concern.
This session helps set clear expectations about the therapy process and how we’ll work together to improve understanding and strengthen your partnership. We’ll collaboratively identify goals that reflect both partners’ needs and aspirations for the relationship, whether it’s rebuilding trust, enhancing intimacy, or improving communication.
The focus is on creating a safe environment where both partners feel heard and valued.
CHILDREN/YOUTH THERAPY
The first appointment in children’s therapy usually involves meeting with the child and, often, their parents or caregivers. This session focuses on understanding what brought the child to therapy, such as emotional or behavioural concerns, difficulties at school, or family changes.
We’ll discuss what therapy might look like for your child, explaining the process in a way that feels comfortable and supportive. Parents and caregivers will have the chance to share their observations and hopes, while the child will be encouraged to express themselves in ways that feel natural.
Together, we’ll set goals tailored to the child’s needs, aiming to help them develop coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and build resilience. The first session is about ensuring everyone feels comfortable and understood as we begin this journey.
